Chai French Toast

Everyone loves french toast.  This recipe, created by Dona Chai, is a twist on the average french toast recipe and elevates the dish to a whole new level. The recipe comes together in a flash making it a perfect weekend brunch treat for guests.  Or, put a beautiful tray together for a luxurious breakfast in bed to share with someone you love. 


  • 1 cup Dona Chai Tea Concentrate
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 slices challah bread cut in 1" slices
  • 4 1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup


  1. Preheat oven to 400°F degrees
  2. Whisk together Dona Chai Tea Concentrate, milk, eggs, sugar and salt in a bowl
  3. Pour into a sheet pan, the add bread and soak until bread has absorbed the liquid
  4. Heat 1 1/2 Tbsp butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat
  5. Transfer bread slices to skillet and cook, turning once, until slightly puffed and golden brown
  6. Place on a large baking sheet
  7. Repeat this process until each of the bread slices has been seared, adding 1 1/2 Tbsp butter between batches
  8. Place baking sheet in the oven. Toast should be golden brown and firm to the touch, about 8 minutes. Serve immediately
